Letter to the Editor,

How ironic that Aucklanders face fare
increases that can only make public transport less attractive in the same week
that Paris has, yet again, had to enforce severe restrictions on car travel and
make public transport free to combat record levels of exhaust pollution
blanketing the city.
Big cities should seriously consider
adopting these measures permanently to reduce pollution and traffic chaos
before it reaches crisis levels.
